GEPA Energy Leadership Academy

What GEPA Academy is building, and who it is for

Africa's energy build-out is run largely by people who learned on the job. GEPA Academy exists to teach the judgement that sits around the engineering.

Africa's energy build-out is being planned, financed, licensed and operated right now, and most of the people doing it learned on the job. The engineering is taught. The judgement around it mostly is not: how to structure a venture, how to hold a governance line under pressure, how to speak to a regulator, how to run the team that has to deliver.

That gap is the reason GEPA Energy Leadership Academy exists. It is the teaching arm of Graced Energy Professionals for Africa, and it starts from a plain observation. The sector's hardest problems are not technical. They are decisions, taken by people who were never trained to take them.

One academy, not a pile of videos

The Academy brings structured learning, practical resources, assessment and certificate verification into one place, for the professionals who will run Africa's energy transition. Its courses are short and structured, built from workshops recorded with working practitioners.

They are assessed rather than merely watched. Every lesson ends with a short check, so nobody finishes a course by leaving a video playing in another tab. The faculty are practitioners rather than lecturers: people running ventures, advising regulators and sitting on the boards they teach about.

Courses also work on a phone. An audio mode drops the picture and keeps the lesson, for the days when data costs more than time.

Four pillars

The work rests on four commitments.

  • Access. Structured, affordable pathways into careers in the energy sector.
  • Transition. Skills for renewables, the grid and a low-carbon future.
  • Local expertise. African practitioner faculty teaching African market realities, from licensing routes and tariffs to the scarcity of capital.
  • Trust. Every certificate is publicly verifiable, end to end.

A certificate is only worth what someone can check, so every GEPA credential can be confirmed by an employer in one click, without taking anyone's word for it.

Who it is for

The Academy is for the people who will lead Africa's energy sector, and for those already doing so without formal preparation. Someone new to the industry can start with its vocabulary, its structure and who does what across generation, transmission and supply. Someone moving from running a function to carrying an organisation can study what that shift demands: board papers, capital discipline and the judgement to say no.

Between those two points, the catalogue covers nine focus areas: energy leadership, clean energy entrepreneurship, ethics and governance, government relations, stakeholder management, HR and organisational management, personal development, investor readiness and energy foundations. Organisations can also sponsor their staff through the Academy as a cohort.

When the leaders are ready, the lights come on.

Where to begin

You can take a single course, follow a whole track, or ask the Academy which one fits the job you are trying to do. Every course, taught from a workshop recording, is in the catalogue.
